Attendance

Every day counts at Boulder Primary School.

Regular attendance is essential to your child’s academic progress, social development, and overall wellbeing. When children attend school every day, they build strong foundations in knowledge, skills, and understanding. Missing even a single day can mean missing important ideas and concepts that support future learning.

Lessons build on one another.

Key learning areas such as Literacy and Numeracy are taught in a carefully structured sequence, with each lesson building on the one before it. When a child misses school, it can be challenging to catch up on learning that develops step by step.

Regular attendance helps children stay confident, capable, and connected to their learning.

Research from the Telethon Kids Institute shows that attendance patterns established in Kindergarten and Pre-Primary often continue throughout a child’s schooling. Developing positive attendance habits early makes a lasting difference.

Attendance supports wellbeing and social and emotional learning (SEL)

School is more than academic learning. It is where children develop important Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) skills, including resilience, confidence, empathy, self-regulation, and positive relationships. Consistent attendance also promotes routine, stability, and connection—all of which are essential for a child’s mental health and wellbeing.

• Build strong friendships and a sense of belonging
• Develop confidence in social situations
• Practise teamwork and problem-solving
• Strengthen emotional regulation and coping skills
• Feel connected and supported within the school community

Building lifelong habits.

Coming to school every day helps children develop the lifelong habit of “showing up.” Whether it’s for school, work, sport, or other commitments, learning to be present, reliable, and committed is a vital life skill that sets them up for future success.

Our shared responsibility.

Under the School Education Act 1999, all enrolled students are required to attend school on every day the school is open. Failure to comply with attendance requirements may result in formal action.

By prioritising attendance, you are giving your child the very best opportunity to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

At Boulder Primary School, every day truly counts.
